Year 4 - Dragons' Den and Fiver Challenge

Skylarks class have been very busy with our Dragons’ Den topic. In maths we carried out some market research about popular board games. We then worked in groups to design and make our own ones.

We watched some clips from Dragons’ Den and we learnt a lot about setting up a business. We wrote some very persuasive sales pitches for our games, which we performed to the scary dragons! They were very impressed and made lots of investments!

We also took part in the Fiver Challenge, run by Young Enterprise. The challenge is to start with £5 and make as much profit as possible. As we had already made our own board games, we decided to host a board game café in the hall. We spent our £5 on squash, plastic cups and napkins and then we all went home and made our own delicious cakes, cookies and brownies to sell. We named our business ‘Game On’ and William and Reuben designed excellent logos for the competition. We put up some posters around the local area to advertise our event.

On Tuesday 27th June, we set up our board game café in the hall. We ran the whole thing ourselves, including working out the change for refreshments, and explaining the rules of our games to customers. It was an enormous success! Each class had an opportunity to come and play our games and buy drinks and snacks and then we opened up the café to parents and everyone else at the end of the day. We had lots of positive feedback and we managed to raise a whopping £231.12!

Thank you to everyone who came to support us, especially the parents who helped make cakes and those who gave up their time to help pack away all the tables at the end of a very long afternoon!

Well done Skylarks!
