Year 4 - RE in Skylarks Class

Our Exciting Trip! – Millie

On Wednesday 17th May, the whole of year 4 went to an incredible Sufi place of worship. Sufi is a strand of Islam.

It was a very long journey, but we finally got off the coach and when we stepped inside we all felt calm and relaxed. To show respect, we had to take off our shoes.

The first thing we did was we split into 3 groups. The groups took turns to look at the prayer room, the main hall and upstairs. Did you know that women have to put on a very special scarf? They also need some rosary beads and then they are ready to pray. After that, Inaya showed us how to pray. The prayers are spoken in Arabic.

Next, all the groups went upstairs to have a traditional Iranian food. We were very lucky.

Finally, we all chose something to draw. Some people chose the big chandeliers, others chose the dome, which was transported from Iran in three pieces and then put back together. We also looked at the beautiful carpets and learnt that they don‘t have people’s faces on the carpets because it is rude to sit or stand on them.

Unfortunately, we had to leave to be at school in time for lunch. That trip was amazing and brilliant! We are the luckiest children in the world!

Skylarks’ Visit from Level 10 Church- Posy

On Thursday 18th May, Silas from Level 10 came in to talk to us about interpretation of God. He split our class in half and we chose a team name for each group. He asked each group what we’re responsible for and what we are interested in. Some people said they were responsible for getting dressed, their tablet, their mum’s phone and brushing their teeth! We talked about how we are all different but we are all responsible for something.
He showed us a video clip and it was lots of different people saying what they believed in. Some people said God and Jesus, others said Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. Some people didn’t believe in anything and other people weren’t sure.
Then we discussed our own beliefs. We all had different ideas about God, but we listened to each other respectfully. I think that if we pray to God he will help us and I believe that he created us. Some people think he’s not real, some people believe in the big bang and some people didn’t know what to believe.
We all believe in different things, because if we were all the same, we would all believe the same, walk the same. We would do everything the same.

Year 1 - Summer Term Activities

Our attendance treat (parachute games and ice-cream!)

As part of our Pirates topic, Badgers sailed across the Caribbean Sea to get to the Treasure Island. They successfully discovered all the treasures hidden by the Spanish pirates. Our quartermaster shared the booty with us but gave most of the jewels to the Captain D.

Year 3 - Outdoor Learning Day

16.5.17

On Tuesday year 3 had an outdoor learning day. Mrs Shelton came in and taught us how bugs live and where to find them. First Mrs Shelton took us down to the pond where we did water dipping in the splashy pond. She told us not to be really close to the pond because we could hurt the animals in the pond and we could get dirty. Mrs Shelton and Mrs Marshall scooped up lots of tadpoles and other creatures. Then we went back to class to look at the creatures there was Tadpoles, Newts, Water boatman, Dragonfly nymph and a fresh water shrimp and a pond snail. We each had a magnifying glass on each table. The animals were very interesting and tadpoles were wriggling a lot.
Next we whacked blossom on the bushes for finding bugs it was really pretty when the blossom came down. We found a lot of bugs. We found ladybirds, beetles, caterpillars, centipedes and a bee but the bee flew away sadly. We came back to our class room and we told the class what we found to each other. It was a bit tricky to find really hard bugs.
After that we went on a tree trail around our school. We had to find these orange ribbons with numbers on. It was pretty tricky. At the end of the hunt we got told which tree was which and we found out a lot of surprising things about holly. Then we had our yummy lunch.
After lunch we had Forest School! Forest school is where we get to play and build and climb and be safe and have fun for three hours! Some of us discovered how to climb a tree with no adult and some of us discovered how to build a swing and a tent/base. After three hours we lit up a fire and ate cooked bread it was yummy. Then we had tidy up time. Finally it was home time we got our stuff for home we also said thank you to Mrs Shelton and told her we had a great time!

Before we went on our walk we listened to Mrs Shelton tell us all about the pond. We then collected a sample to observe the wildlife.

We are on a Tree Trail, trying to identify the tree from its leaves.

Hunting for bugs.

Looking at what we collected.

Reception Class - Springtime

In Squirrels we have been looking at the signs of spring. We went for a walk around the school and spotted flowers, buds on trees and new shoots emerging.
We have some tadpoles visiting from the school pond. We will be watching them over the next few weeks to see how they grow and change into frogs.

We got on our wellies and coats to go for a walk to the pond to let our froglets go, waving them goodbye.

Year 5 - Ancient Greece

This Half Term Year 5 have been busy learning about Ancient Greece. We thought about what we would like to know about the Greeks and we compiled research questions. We wrote up our findings in the form of Information Texts to allow us to pass on our knowledge to other children. We thought what facts would be most engaging and interesting and we thought about what language and layout we would use to make them appeal to our audience.

We are really proud of our finished products!

Year 3 - Andy Goldsworthy Study

In Year 3 we have been looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy. He uses natural materials to make sculptures and collages.

In Forest School we made sculptures and in class we made collages.

Reception Class - Stay and Play

Squirrels invited their families in for a stay and play. Lots of fun was had inside and outside, for example, we were building dens, cooking Easter nests and sharing books.

Mrs Homewood then invited the parents to stay for a workshop looking at learning in Year R.
